Jennifer Lopez's and Josh Duhamel's new rom-com "Shotgun Wedding" is centered around their destination wedding, but there's trouble in paradise. As you can imagine by the title, the big day quickly turns into a far more action- and gun-packed situation than anyone planned.

"Shotgun Wedding" is a chocolate-covered cherry with liqueur inside. It starts as a glossy but merely serviceable romantic comedy about a couple who both have jitters the night before their big day. Then the sun comes up, and the movie turns into an action comedy: the heroine and her fiancé try to save their parents and the rest of their wedding party from pirates who have invaded their nuptials on a tiny island near the Philippines that is conveniently (for plot purposes) too far from the mainland to get good cell reception.

Jennifer Lopez plays the bride, Darcy, who didn't want to have a big wedding but agreed because ... well, maybe it's best to leave that to the film to explain. There are also the concerns of Darcy's fiancé Tom (Josh Duhamel), a washed-up minor-league baseball player; the insinuating entitlement of Darcy's ex-lover Sean (Lenny Kravitz), who wasn't invited but showed up anyway; the awkward energy of Darcy's divorced mom and dad, Roberto and Renata (Cheech Marin and Sônia Braga), which informs the bride's anxieties; and the sprightly middle-American cluelessness of Tom's parents Carol and Larry (Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Coulter).

Lopez puts her physicality to great use. In the first part of the movie, Darcy, clad in a tank top and undies, "tries" and "fails" to reach a book on a high shelf to flirt with her stressed-out fiancé (this is part of their bedtime roleplaying routine; he's the hunky handyman). It's naughty and funny in the way that actual flirting can be. Later, there's a stunt that is to long bridal trains what the end of "The Incredibles" is to superhero capes. It's followed by a poster-ready moment where a shotgun-toting Darcy's previously encumbering gown gets shredded in a way that makes her look like a sci-fi bounty hunter. Duhamel uses his action-hero body and oak-aged bourbon voice in a wounded way. His Tom is giant little boy who lives in fear of being a disappointment. But once explosives go off and golf carts tumble from cliffs, the character's filthy, blood-spattered tuxedo brands him as a stalwart action hero: Bond's low-self-esteem Yankee cousin.

Shotgun Wedding by Prime Video, released on Lionsgate Play, is a crazy ride that makes you wonder if planning a lavish wedding is worthwhile. However, if the couple is badass, there is no cause for concern.

It is a destination wedding on an island in the Philippines. On paper, it sounds like the most romantic destination, but things quickly take a dangerous yet hilarious turn. Sean, played by Lenny Kravitz, is Darcy's ex and her father's friend, who crashes the wedding, and the couple seems to be constantly fighting and getting cold feet.

But the worst is saved for last when a bunch of dangerous, murderous pirates raids the resort they live in and take the guests of the wedding hostage. Even though the couple has differences, they take up the responsibility to save everyone.

Shotgun Wedding is a pretty enjoyable watch if you dig destination weddings, classic Hollywood comedies, action, and of course, the stunning Jennifer Lopez. Lopez and Duhamel have been in the game for ages, and their performances are riveting, as expected.

Ever since the official trailer for Shotgun Wedding was launched, the audience has been eagerly waiting to witness how the intriguing story of a grand destination wedding, which turned into absolute mayhem, will unfold.

The synopsis provides viewers with clues about what to expect from the brand new Prime Video movie. By the looks of it, it is quite evident that the audience is in for a thrilling rollercoaster ride as they will witness a never-seen-before destination wedding, as the groom and bride will be seen fighting for their own lives and the lives of their loved ones in this new movie.

In the first trailer for her latest rom-com Shotgun Wedding, Lopez's Darcy and Josh Duhamel's Tom are set to say "I do" during a picture-perfect destination wedding. But once the planning, the families and the feelings of cold feet get involved, the festivities quickly become the something blue no one asked for.

But of course pirates get in the way of some of that, and also promptly force the wedding guests to stand in a pool as their hostages while they try to find the fighting bride and groom. It was a lot of time partially submerged in water with about a dozen other people.

Shotgun Wedding, helmed by Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore and written by New Girl creator Liz Meriwether and Mark Hammer, is a Lionsgate action-comedy that follows the story of Darcy (Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) as they gather their families for a destination wedding that sees the entire party taken hostage.

The nuptials between Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel go to hell in Shotgun Wedding, a comedy about a destination wedding party that's taken hostage. The Jason Moore-directed film is due out next year, but a first look arrived this week courtesy of Lopez, who posted some pics to social media. The images show Lopez and Duhamel looking both very attractive and very roughed-up. They're movie stars, so even when they're covered in grime and blood they look hot. That's how it works. See the images below.

"We couldn't be happier for our bride and groom of this Shotgun Wedding," said Erin Westerman, president of production for the Lionsgate Motion Pictures Group. "We know Josh and Jennifer will make a compelling and sexy on-screen couple and they will be fun sparring partners as their dream destination wedding erupts into a memorable nightmare. We are also thrilled to bring Jennifer and Sonia on to our cast as Mothers of the Bride and Groom. Their acting and comedic talents will add another fun layer to this already-rich action-comedy."

"Shotgun Wedding," produced by Ryan Reynolds and Lopez, follows a couple's destination wedding ceremony that ends up getting hijacked by criminals. They are left trying to do everything they can to save their families.

The artsy photo on the beach shows only Cook's hand -- which now features a gold wedding band -- on Stiles' baby bump. The Save the Last Dance star -- whose face is not seen in the image -- is also cradling her bump while wearing a lace, off-white dress.

According to the official description, the film starts off with standard romantic comedy fare: the pair is preparing for their dream wedding, but their opinionated and wacky family causes tension. You know how it goes. Then, in the middle of the destination wedding, everyone suddenly gets kidnapped and the bride and groom have to save everyone.

Description: This humorous scene was composed to illustrate the concept of a shotgun wedding. A couple, Bill and Ethel Tellman, sits on a swing while a man, presumably Ethel's father or someone acting like him, sneaks up behind them with a shotgun. Typically in situations like this the would-be bride is pregnant.

Shotgun Wedding Trailer: Jennifer Lopez and Josh Duhamel turn from a soon-to-be-wedded couple to a pair of vigilante warriors when the guests at their destination wedding are taken hostage. Jennifer Coolidge adds some fun mother-of-the-groom energy to this absolutely bonkers trailer, making me very excited to watch the movie when it comes out on Jan. 27. 041b061a72
